Chief Academy Instructor - 6th Degree

I started judo as a young boy after being bullied at school. Tae Kwon-do was later introduced to me and I have never looked back. During my study of the martial arts, I have been fortunate enough to have had the benefit of training in both the UK and the U.S.A., where I had the honour of training alongside some of the greatest martial artists in the World. I returned from America in 1991 and immediately founded the Anglia Academy of Tae Kwon-do, which now has clubs throughout the country and a membership of over 200 students. As a student I was told: the more effort I put into my study of the martial arts the greater the rewards would be. As an instructor I quote the same; remember that Tae Kwon-do is more than a hobby, it's a lifetime's apprenticeship towards your goals and aspirations. Your devolpment in Tae Kwon-do will effect every aspect of your life. Studying the martial arts is the start of a new day, therefore the begining of a new life. There is no begining, has no end, only that which you seek.

As a young boy I was always interested in marital arts, as the older kids regularly bullied me because I was so tall and thin. My mother encouraged me to take up Judo when I was around 10 years old so I could learn to defend myself. It helped me to develop self-confidence and even though I still took a beating every now and again I was able stand up to the bullies. During my high school years I was very committed to rugby and many other sports and upon leaving school was looking to follow a career in the army as a physical training instructor. During a league rugby match I sustained a severe leg injury by tearing a ligament in my right knee and groin upon which the doctor proclaimed I might never play sport again! In 1997 I was introduced to Tae Kwon-Do for its dynamic flexibility and fitness training and after a few sessions was hooked. Tae Kwon-Do has taught me a lot. Mainly to be positive and believe in myself along with perseverance and the ability to set goals and achieve them. In April 2004 I gained my 1st Degree Black Belt and I have also won 2 gold and 1 silver medal at Regional competitions, and a bronze medal at the British National Championships. How's that for never being able to play sport again? I now teach Tae Kwon-Do full time and I hope I can help other people achieve their goals. The goal I have set myself now is to perform the full side splits.

I began learning Tae Kwon-do at the beginning of 1995, under the guidance of Mr Williams and Mr Wurr. Five years later I gained my black belt and in April 2003 began teaching my own classes, after having achieved my 2nd degree black belt. Tae Kwon-do isnt just about kicking and punching but also trying to make oneself a better person by following the ethos of the martial arts and the tenets of Tae Kwon-do. Students who work hard will be rewarded not only by their advancement through the grades but also through increased self confidence, fitness and health, successes at competitions, becoming an instructor themselves and through the respect they will undoubtedly receive from their friends and peers
